The boom in shipbuilding in the Council of Outes turned the estuary into a hive of workers eager to build boats with a local wood that seemed especially suitable for this purpose.

Between sawmills and small shipyards, dozens of small companies competed to build the most seaworthy boats just a few metres from the water, giving rise to their being known as the carpenters with wet feet.

The Council of Outes offers us a walking route to remember the vestiges of that period of splendour and also, as a complementary version, a virtual route in which the protagonists themselves tell us what those times were like.
